Yesterday afternoon was very pleasant, the wind a little less than predicted at 10 to 15 knots, the sun shone and all our gear dried out. The main meal cooked by Jim of chicken and pasta was taken at lunch time to take advantage of the conditions. Dolphins turned up after lunch and stayed with us for a while. Jim prepared sandwiches to eat later when conditions were expected to deteriate. Before dark we stowed the main and hanked on the storm jib just in case.
The wind continued to rise through the night and by my watch at 3 am we had just a well rolled headsail set and we had bourn away to put the wind behind the beam. That is still the position the wind is blowing hard but I cannot give you a figure as the twirly thing on the anemometer blew away during the early morning. The waves are now large but lengthening and well organised only occasionally does one hit us awkwardly bouncing us sideways and sending water all over the place. We seem to be dry below, just a tiny leek from a cable gland by the mast.
The crew is in good shape spending of watch time in our bunks.
The blow is predicted to continue until the early morning and then drop quickly. We are looking forward to that as a shower and a shave are becoming a priority.
