A busy morning on Friday - visits to the market, shops, and internet cafe for more chocolate and WiFi - was followed by a leisurely sail (in light winds) to Islas Cies, arriving at the anchorage off the main beach in time for lunch. Ted decided his sprained ankle needed some exercise so a dinghy trip ashore was followed by a walk up to a view point on Isla de Norte, where there were indeed some interesting views in both directions (couldn't see America though), and a stroll through the campsite stopping for a drink (for Ted) and an ice lolly (for Kay). (Jan may remember this as the island of the enormous pine cones, although now a lot busier and more developed than 1993)

Once the many ferries had stopped coming and going the anchorage was smooth and peaceful and a good night was had by both. In the morning a short dinghy trip to explore the other anchorage to the South of the island proved it to be no better than where we were - Atlantic swell instead of ferry wash - so after lunch it was anchor up and off to Bayona.

There was sufficient rise of tide to attempt the more direct but slightly hazardous Canal de la Porta. The chart plotter showed a rock in the middle of the channel, that was not on the paper chart or mentioned in the pilot book, but skilful navigation ensured  safe passage for boat and crew. There was no room at the preferred yacht club marina so we tied up in the larger marina, in a berth that could have accommodated a boat twice our size and proved to be about as far away from the facilities as it was possible to be. On checking in, the friendly English speaking lady in the office told us that it was a feast day and as well as the music and sounds of a loud speaker, which we could already hear, they would be letting fireworks off in the harbour next door at midnight! A far cry from the peace of the islands.

If we haven't been kept awake all night it's off to Portugal tomorrow.
