The centre of Washington DC seems very compact,
probably helped by New York being home to all the nightlife and razzmatazz
of the stage and popular culture. The buildings of government are as
grand as the many monuments on the Mall are impressive. To me it seems
that the few square miles commemorate the salient events of it's political,
social and of course military history.
