While we were there we walked round the town and explored their historic trail. There is also a very extensive beach area, but it seems the locals would rather stand on the pier and fish than frolic in the sand.

 

I thought it was a gigantic fishing float but apparently it’s an art installation, which will open up in the summer.

This statue represents a citizen of Mandal and  what brought the town’s prosperity – salmon in his pockets, bread in his shoes, and eggs in his hat

When we came down a different way this lorry was at the foot of the steps we used. It was a bit of a squeeze getting past!
