Tor was planning to leave on Wednesday and round Lindesnes and he reassured us that it would be fine, so we dragged ourselves away from Mandal and set off, initially through an inside route again.  The weather was bright but not sunny, the wind was light  and the sea was calm as we motored through the rocks.

    Lindesnes

Lindesnes proved not to be at all threatening even though the wind had got up to 15Kn from WSW, and we saw In Transit motoring in the distance as we put the jib up to help as we freed up to head for Farsund. Tor was heading further on so was not able to get any help from his sails. The sun had come out by now and it was good to feel that we had one milestone behind us.

   Approaching Farsund

When we arrived at Farsund it was not at all clear where the main guest harbour was. We headed into what turned out to be an inner harbour and tied up to a small pontoon, but there were no facilities as described in the harbour guide. We ate lunch and went for a walk ashore, discovering the guest harbour on the other side of the bridge that divided the two areas, and with an approach in quite a different direction to the way we had gone.

Views of Farsund – a not particularly interesting town, which apparently has many churches but we only saw one in the distance

We aslo discovered Kumpel, a Halberg Rassy, being sailed by Andrew, David, and Nigel, who had arrived from The Orkneys earlier that day.  They were about to explore the town, so we agreed to meet up in the evening and went back to move the boat.

Kumpel

The correct guest harbour had all facilities and was right beside a very convenient supermarket so we were well pleased to have made the move. We had a very convivial evening on board Kumpel. The early evening drinks turned into an invitation to share their dinner if we could contribute something to extend it. The tin of Swedish meatballs we fetched made a tasty addition  to chicken curry and the pears in red wine dessert made a gourmet feast. Unfortunately they were headed in the opposite direction to us so we parted with wishes that we would meet them again in Scotland.
