Rugen Rally day 4

Moorglade's Voyage

The next day we all went on a bus trip to Hanse Yachts in Griefswald. They now have the rights to the Moody name but the Moodys they make are their luxury range, all made to order and the purchaser’s specification. We were not allowed to take photographs, although I’m not sure what it was about their production techniques they were trying to keep secret as the general consensus was that the production generally was not using the latest techniques and systems.

It wasn’t raining at the beginning

But the storm clouds are gathering

The visit over we walked back into the town. Unfortunately the heavens opened before we got there and some of us didn’t have waterproofs having left to catch the bus in a bit of a rush. Ted offered me his but I could tell his heart wasn’t in it. We all sheltered under trees, but trees leak quite a bit, so when it eased a bit we made a dash to a group of floating cafés and settled in with a hot drink and them some lunch while waiting for it to stop. They also supplied blankets, which were very gratefully received, particularly by those who didn’t have jumpers as well as no waterproofs!

Blankets were welcome. They also had a wood burner but it wasn’t alight – well it is July!

Our lunch haven

Lunch over and rain stopped we walked round the town, admiring the church and the old buildings before the call of coffee and cake grew too strong so we stopped at a café in the square until it was time to go back to the bus. On the way home we detoured to see a bridge built in the Dutch mould – interesting enough as it was old, but no different to the ones we had seen in Holland.

This stretch of water is a boat museum. Not sure if the old salt is one of the exhibits though

Views of Griefswald – more backless buildings and one that seemed ripe for restoration

More churches

and more quirky statues

These were bags of shells hanging from a post – no idea why!

The Dutch bridge

a popular resting place

We got back in time to deal with our laundry crisis before eating once again at the marina restaurant. The food was marginally better than the night before and then Simon & Sue (Nixe) and Simon & Nancy (Footloose) together with Nicholas all came back to Moorglade for drinks. Footloose Simon brought a bottle of whiskey as well as supplementing our rather meagre beer supplies and a very merry time was had, although maybe the whisky was a step too far for some.
