We left Belhaven at 7:30 prompt with the intension of getting as far as the little Alligator River before we anchored for the night. It was a cold morning but dry with a 15knot Northerly wind.
Progress was good up the Pungo River to the Alligator River, Pungo River Canal which is a 20 mile dead straight cut with little on either side but trees. It was obvious the wind was increasing even in the canal, but it soon became clear as we joined the Alligator River that to push on up the next 20 miles of exposed river to reach the little Alligator river anchorage would be hard going, so John suggested anchoring North of Deep Point where there is good holding and protection from the waves, even if the low land did little to moderate the 35knt wind. Others had the same idea, including Carry On who had finally sorted their engine problems.
After a late lunch, and a snooze with the boats heating on, I got down to some reading and planning for sailing up the Chesapeake to Annapolis.
An early night was in order as we planned to start early the following morning to do the Alligator River before the wind got up.
