We decided to rest up another 24 hours in Barra, soaking up the summer sunshine, before heading over to the marina at Punta Lagoa in Vigo.

On 31st July, we woke up to a moderate breeze blowing onshore, from the south west. After an hour or so a short chop had developed, so we upped the anchor and motored smartly out of the anchorage and through the fishing farms towards the main east- west channel of the Ria, to make our way the 5 miles or so the Punta Lagoa. The sea became quite rough as the wind gusted to 25 knots and then.....the engine stopped.

We quickly hoisted the genoa and set about bringing forward one of the items on our jobs list; an engine service!

In quick succession, I changed both the primary and engine fuel filters, while Karen steered to boat along on a beam reach and we had only just passed the marina entrance, by the time the old Volvo came back to life. Lessons learned on our travels have reduced the whole process down to a 15 minute exercise.

The entrance to the marina at Punta Lagoa is close to a rocky reef, so the availability of a reliable engine here is a positive advantage and we trickled in slowly to find our alotted berth. We simply could not see the berth numbers, and eventually the marineros led us to a nice spot much closer to the amenities and in the shadow of an elderly Volvo 60 being refit. This was to be Persephones home,on and off, for the next 6 months or so....
