Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...

After our day ashore, we returned to Persephone and became convinced that she had dragged her anchor a few yards in the still pretty impressive gusts which rushed around the outer reaches of the bay. So we reset the hook, and settled in for an earlyish night ready for a blustery sail north in the morning. The bay at Deshais was quite busy. Venture Lady pulled out a day ahead of us, and we saw two lovely Nicholson cruising yachts...Mitty, a 32 and Energy, a 35. Mitty were alongside us and quite welcoming when we arrived....
The sail to Antigua was fast. We sailed another close reach in 22 knots of wind from just north of east. It was bright and warm but the waves were huge (again!). Even though we set a conservative sailplan, with 2 reefs and a small headsail, Persephone charged at the seas with the inevitable result of a swift passage, and a very wet crew. This keeps happening, virtually every time we go out sailing...and I cannot remember the boat being anything like this wet when we are racing in the Solent or the English Channel. Apart from a good soaking though and bobbing up and down on a 3 to 4 metre wavetrain on the starboard bow, the sail was uneventful and we sailed into Freemans Bay, off Galleon Beach, English Harbour, after a trip of just under 6 hours. And we were fortunate, for there was a lovely little spot in the anchorage, just waiting for us, perhaps 3 boatlengths from where we spent a happy 3 weeks in 2013.
