DR to Bermuuda, Sunday 21.4.13

Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...
Sun 21 Apr 2013 20:47
The last 30 hours or so have been pretty restful for the crew of Persephone. Although we slabbed in a second reef last night, the wind dropped from around 16 knots at dusk to 12 knots at dawn this morning. So today, we have progressively increased the sail area we offer to the wind gods and the good ship has progressed well along the rhumb line to Bermuda.

This is day 4, and our trusty Aquair towing generator has proved so efficient that our batteries remain topped up despite continued use of the amp hungry fridge and the autopilot..so much so that the engine, which has been a primary source of battery recharging, must be starting to believe we have already arrived home, and will only use it every 5 days or so!

The water temperature continues to fall as we progress north..it is now down to 22 degrees C, from 26 or 27 in the DR and BVI's. However the skies are clear and bright and currently free of squalls.

We have seen one ship so far, which graciously diverted it's course to starboard to let us proceed unhindered, proving, perhaps that motor does give way to sail on the high seas after all.

The noises in the boat have been tracked down...the new cracking sound has been traced to a jar of pasta sauce rocking in the bilge!!  Water ingress in the earlier feisty conditions has stopped...we think it is coming in from somewhere up forward in the boat...and will have a longer look when we get to Bermuda and can unpack the sail wardrobe which is all stored up there.
