Bermuda to Azores, Day 2

Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...

The last 24 hours have ended with Karen feeling a great deal better and as we write, she is celebrating her birthday, 250 miles out from Bermuda and baking bread!

Last night was interesting. Above us we had a beautifully clear Atlantic sky, yet on the eastern horizon we could see an amazing light show of sheet lightning. It went on for several hours, and we eventually passed a few miles to windward of the squall which wwas generating the show.

We tend to reef down a little at night. That reduces speed a tad, but makes things a llittle more  comfortable and reduces the likelihood that we wil have to dance about on deck in the dark, doing sail changes etc.  In hindsight, last night's reef was probably not warranted, and we slowed down a litle too much so that our daily run was down to 124 miles.

The sailing is fairly easy, the sea state, slight, for mid ocean. It is generally bright and sunny. You might say champagne conditions, but it's cold, so let's say champagne on ice.

Nice messages from Tim and from Lorraine this morning.   Nigel is thinking about the other Sigma 38's assembling this evening in Lymington for the 2013 National Championships. We expect to cover more distance this weekend than they will. Good luck to all, and especially to Gambit, with a team assembled by Tim...who ought to make a decent showing....

Al well here.
