Our Progress
Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...

Today is Sunday and our fifth day at sea. So
far we have covered 540 miles so just 1274 to go!!
The weather patttern seems to be about 18 hours
ahead of forecast so last night the predicted light breeze came early so our
progress was a little slower than expected. Today the wind has been
variable and we have been on the wind most of the day - not ideal. We have
had to monitor a number of large squalls but Nigel has discovered the secret.
Make sure you don all your foul weather gear before going out on deck and you
can be sure that the squall will pass you by without a drop falllng on your
head. We are yet to test this theory in full by sending him out there in
shorts and tee shirt. (Any one of our crew for the ARC race reading this
will know exactly what we mean).
The wind speeds have been in the region of 12 -22
knots and we have reefed in and out a number of times the last few days. Well
practice makes perfect!
We have yet to see another boat since losing
conntact wih Yacht Shishco, the Dutch boat we left Bermuda with, we suspect they
are quite a way behind us now. It makes you realise what a lonely plaace
the Atlanic is. Again memories of the ARC spring to mind when it was 11
days before we saw another boat.
All is well on board.
