The last 24 or so hours have been essentially more
of the same; light winds, slow progress, blue skies, hot sunshine and so
on.
We have made some progress towards the Azores, but
it seems to be at a glacial pace.
The wildlife has amused us though.
First, the seagulls. For days now, we have been
escorted by sets of gulls, usually in twos and threes. They alight on the water
just in front of the boat, wait for us to sail past....leave it a discreet time
period, then take to the air, overtake us and repeat. This has gone on for days
and days. Curious.
More recently in the calm waters of the Sargasso,
we have seen hundreds of, what I think are called Portuguese men of war. These
little creatures have an inflatable sail, which they use to great effect in the
light winds here. They even manage to go upwind...sort of primordial kite
surfers!
In the last hour or so though, some breeze has come
and found us, and we are finally moving again. The last 24 hours saw us complete
under 60 miles, so you can imagine how we want to pick up the pace, just a
tad.
Windex has had a wash in a torrential rain shower
and seems to be performing normally now.
FRED the autopilot is also fine, but has a regular
hissy fit at sunset each evening. Turning it off and on again seems to be the
remedy, so he needs invigilating around sundown. Something for the Raymarine
boffins to get their heads round when we get into
port.
