Yesterday, based on the best available weather information, we slipped away from Mallorca, to return to Ibiza. We woke bright and early after a lovely evening with Alastair, Liz, Griff and Jane, plus the England football team, whom we watched ona large television and who gladly obliged by winning in their opening game of the world cup. The weather was calm but promising good wind, so we upped the anchor and set off.

And for a considerable time, the wind indeed obliged and soon we were barrelling along in 16 knots of breeze on a beam reach. But it was not to last, and a little over half way, the breeze declined so that by 3 in the afternoon, we had under 4 knots, from behind us, and still about 35 miles to go.

So on went the engine, and we chugged gently for between 6 and 7 hours to reach our destination at dusk. Still, not all bad; the watermaker went on as well and we charged up computers, phones, ipads etcas we went along.

Cala Llonga is a steep sided rocky inlet, with a very attractive sandy beach at its head and several hotels and restaurants as well. But is has charm, is calm and sheltered and not a bad place to spend a couple of nights.

Today we dined on sardines in a beach side restaurant and even spent a few hours on the beach. Karen took her snorkelling kit and then decided to swim back to the boat...although not far, it isa significant swim of maybe 300 yards.

We will try to go to Ibiza town tomorrow, by water taxi, and sail to Formentera on Friday.
