Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...
Tue 11 Oct 2016 07:28
Just before dawn this morning, we hoisted the sails again after a noisy night, having conceded to the "iron tops'l" after a  frustrating afternoon yesterday, trying to sail downwind in light breezes but lumpy water. So yesterday, we covered only about 80 miles. But we defnitely topped up ou tans, sailing wst south wst of the Barbary Coast.

Lots of calculations ensued about fuel tank capacity, litres of diesel used per hour and time to run at different speeds. I think on any analysis, save perhaps motoring flat out, we have plenty of fuel.  But Persephone is a sailing boat...the engine is definitely auxiliary, unlike those in most dedicated cruising boats, so its good to be sailing again (and faster).

Karen let me sleep all night (like, 10 hours of the stuff!) and she will have until at least noon to catch up on her own sleep, now in the peace and quiet.

all good.

should be in Porto Santo by midnight..94 miles away
