The trade winds are here!  These particular winds have created some fantastic sailing conditions. It is 28 degrees, the sun is shining and we have 17 knots of breeze.

So until about 1800 we kept the same sailplan...deep running under the old but still good heavyweight spinnaker.

But the seas are lumpy and we are getting a bit tired, so at 1800 we took the kite down to enjoy a maintenance free late afternoon and evening.  As I write, we are topping up the water supplies and contemplating the last 200 miles or so, of our journey.

We want to arrive in daylight. There are some interesting reefs to the south of Barbados, which are marked, but Caribbean lights are notoriously unreliable, so a daytime arrival to a new island we have never visited before, is definitely preferable.

So to slow down a little, from around 8 knots to 6.5 overnight, helps us achieve that aim.  Current projections have us in the anchorage at Bridgetown, mid morning on Sunday.

It's been a blat...not quite over yet, but the sense of it is beginning to sink in.  Ant although we are going to take 19 days and some hours, which is 3 days longer than our trip across with the ARC, the conditions have been completely different this time. And, we seem to be 230 miles (nearly 36 hours) ahead of Win2Win, a similar sized boat who left La Gomera with us.
