Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...

Yesterday was frustrating. Very little wind, all from behind. We struggled to keep Persephone moving and finally, in the evening, resorted to engine.

Then the fun started!  Suddenly, it was clear that Persephone, under the command of FRED, the autopilot, had started pirouetting in tight circles all on her own.  The pilot had lost the plot! We disengaged it, switched it off and on again and retried. The same thing happened.

So we reverted to manual steering and sought out the documents which come with the Raymarine Pilot. The other thing we noticed is that the pilot head unit seemed to e scrolling through headings, round the compass card.

So we followed intuition, and performed the seatrial compass swinging routine....turn the boat slowly round in circles etc, and that seemed to do the trick....for an hour or so, and then the whole performance started again.

Eventually, with more switching on and off, we settled the thing down and it has been fine since.

Only 98 miles covered yesterday. Tim is guiding us through this calm bit of the Atlantic, but for the time being, we re heading North West, towards Bermuda as it is the only direction we can sail in where there is wind!

This could be a long, slow journey....
