It is just after 2300 UT and the last 24 hours have been very varied. Last night we were in big breezes amid bigger waves. We tacked onto starboard still under 3 reefs and the little No 3, and headed north into what the GRIBs told us would be lighter airs and hopefully, lighter seas. This transpired to be correct and as the new day dawned, there was a mood of optimism about.

The sun came out, it warmed up, the boat dried out and steadily we shook out the reefs and changed headsail. It was a busy day on deck. We have come north or our original rhumb line and will stay up here, still beating, alas but in 10 to 13 knots and an accompanying manageable sea state.

We are expecting northerly breezes by midweek and want to capitalise by being fairly north when they arrive.

The morale indicator dial is more positive today, no more mal de mer, but we really both simply just want to get there!

"There" might be Horta as the jobs list on Persephone is growing and there are no facilities in Flores, and possibly no shelter either if the wind stays in the north to north east. 800 miles to go so still some sailing to do!
