We arrived here at just after 1900 local time, 1800 UT on Monday. The sail along the northern side of Madeira started in feisty form but as the sun came out in the late morning, the wind and waves alleviated until we had shaken out all the reefs and headed around Ponta Sao Lourenco and fetched the last 3 or 4 miles to the marina entrance.

Phillip and Anne from Golden Breeze were on hand to take our lines, and even offer us refreshment before supper.

Quinta do Lorde marina is a luxurious refuge which we have begun to know quite well. They also operate the boatyard at Agua do Pena, under the airport runway extension. We have arranged to haul Persephone out there and went down to visit the yard itself on Thursday. It is full and we have apparently reserved the last place available this winter, as the entire Transquadra fleet is stored there, pending the start of the second leg, to Martinique in February.

So persephone will be amongst racing boats for much of her proposed 6 month rest. We haul out on Thursday.

In the meantime, we have enjoyed spending a little time with Phillip and Anne, though they left for La Graciosa north of Lanzarote yesterday. We also visited Funchal and had a chance sighting of Veikko and Hanna a few moments before they too set off for Graciosa.

A visit to the botanical gardens at Monte, above Funchal was interesting...and we plan to do the walk down to Ponta Sao Lourenco before we leave.

Today is Sunday and we are having a domestic day.....washing, email, and a roast chicken dinner....
