Persephone... Cruiser/Racer
Nigel & Karen Goodhew...
Wed 18 Jan 2017 19:09
When we booted up our tired and emotional wind instruments this morning, we had confirmation in digital form of the fact that the breeze had indeed been building slowly but surely, overnight, and that 20 plus knots of breeze were pushing us along.

We slabbed in a reef and pressed on with a degree more comfort, and that has been the situation ever since.

Our new wind pressure contributed to our second highest daily run of the trip at 151 miles, measured from 1500 each day. Since 1900 yesterday, we have logged 153 miles. We have almost a knot of current with us, called the northern equatorial current, and it certainly helps. But the increased wind has also kicked up an impressive quartering swell, which makes life interesting on board. Very rolly!

There have been more dolphins today and our haul of flying fish found on deck in the mornings has increased to 4.

We have been sitting on the side getting our feet washed by the wake of Persephone and the water temperature is a steamy 24 degrees.

Tomorrow, all being well, we will pass the half way point, and start the countdown to our destination, Bridgetown, now just 1400 miles away. In Fastnet terms, that's just over 2!
