20 August 2013 –Portosin

Here, as promised to Richard and John, is a pic of the world-girdling passarelle that our neighbour Tony on Diva (on his way back to Southwold) has generously donated.  It’s a bit narrow at only 220mm so will require careful negotiation but at 2.5m long will reach will beyond the dinghy.

The wind, after blowing a hooli for a couple of days and overnight, dropped mid-morning and it has become unbearably hot.  Roger has been thinking about a bimini to improve shade whilst sailing.  The design has started to crystallise: execution is the next challenge.  We had hoped to go tomorrow to Vigo, but heard today that the recommended yard is closed till early Sept.  The chief lady in Portosin has been extremely helpful.  In perfect English, having shared with me her frustrations about the inadequacies of her husband in house cleanings she advised on the firm that the club uses; rang them up and checked availability and ability to communicate in English.  A woman that is worth her weight in gold!  It almost compensated for the extremely high cost of staying here – 39.90 euros a night.  We’ll be at anchor for the rest of the week to compensate!
