And, finally ... San Francisco

It would soon be time for us all to fly away.  First we had to get to San Francisco - a morning drive into Yosemite Valley and then northwest along a slow, winding road through the mountains and out of the Park.  It was a Saturday so most of the traffic was coming the other way - cars and camper vans piled high with families and their weekend gear.

We'd booked a hotel close to Union Square and by the afternoon were in the thick of downtown San Francisco.  After so long in the "wild west" it was a bit of a shock.  We only had a day to sight-see so drove around the highlights on Sunday.  It was very busy in popular spots, and often difficult to park, but we did get to see the Pacific Ocean and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge.  As a treat in the evening we went to a highly-rated Italian restaurant for supper and were not disappointed, eating beautifully cooked scallops and zabaglione for pudding.

. . .  and downtown SF, from Twin Peaks

When we handed back the car we had added over 5,800 miles to the clock.  At times the travelling was quite exhausting but there's no doubt this was one of the most spectacular and enjoyable trips we've ever made.
