Now sitting in Falmouth, waiting for a window of
fine weather in order to cross Biscay, we can look back on the
last few weeks of frantic activity. Those of you who doubted
whether we'd get back on the water this summer have been proved
wrong - but we should admit to some sleepless nights worrying how
we'd get everything done in time.|

We owe a massive thank you to the many people who have provided help and support. Without you we would not have been able to restore Lynn Rival to such a good condition and your generosity has inspired us to achieve much more than we could have hoped for.
Firstly, our insurers RSA and brokers Topsail, who took charge of Lynn Rival after she was brought back to Portland by the RFA Wave Knight and examined for forensics by the Metropolitan Police. At that time they had no idea how long we would be captive, or that we would want to see her again.
Out of the blue, Vicky Spencer of Spencer Rigging contacted us soon after our release to offer help. She had been moved by our story and our determination to get Lynn Rival back on the water.
As long-standing customers of Hawkehouse Marine we were touched to get an email from Alan Dring wishing us well and wanting to help.
Henri Lloyd generously kitted us out for sailing in UK waters
Marlec Engineering speedily refurbished our trusty Rutland wind turbine.
Local riggers, Atlantic Spars, became a regular source of help, advice and support. Nicky Lyness used her boundless enthusiasm and energy to secure all sorts of equipment at good prices for us.
Nicky Irvine of Bainbridge International has been another enthusiastic and generous supporter.
And Chris Jeckells invited us to celebrate Jeckells' 180th anniversary with a set of new sails.
Among other things Pedros Yacht Services repaired holes in the coachroof - the removal of bullet holes being a new challenge for them.
Garmin supplied much needed electronics.
And Lathams, Proctors, Ocean Safety, Salty John and Sea Breathe all chipped in.
Not forgetting Ed at Mailasail.
And Rob and Andy at Storrar Marine who organised a memorable RNLI fund-raising event.
Plus the many who succumbed to our pleas for ex-hostage discounts or donated bits of equipment to the cause.
And then there is the sailing community, not least the Cruising Association and Rival Owners' Association but also the OCC and many more people who continue to be so very supportive. We will miss Dartmouth, the friendly staff at Noss Marina and our cheerful neighbours in the boatyard.
Warmer climates beckon but we'll always be just an email away.
