We spent 10 days cruising the west coast of Mahe and got back to Victoria on Good Friday.   At this time of year the weather is very changeable.  It's the time when the north-westerly winds that prevail during December to March, change over to the south-easterlies that prevail May to October.   Heavy rain showers are frequent, and sometimes prolonged.

Although the weather was not ideal for cruising we found a couple of good all-weather anchorages, where we could swim, and sleep comfortably.  The coastline is very attractive, though increasingly developed with holiday complexes.  All the bays have reefs close to the shore so approaching the shore for anchoring can be a bit tricky.  We like to anchor in around 4-5 metres if possible.  Generally the water is clear enough to see the rocks and identify the sandy areas safe for anchoring.

We did some snorkelling and met some interesting fish, also spotting a small turtle in Port Launay, but have yet to find much colourful coral.

This morning Paul caught a flight to the UK to see his father.  Rachel will follow shortly.  Photographs will be posted asap.
