The EJ's Voyage

After battling the nasty front for 24hrs the wind finally dropped down yesterday at 4pm. Thanks to our reliable FALBALA and to our captain's skills we went through it without damage. It was hairy at times though! Scutch, shame you were not here. You would have loved it!!! The sea eventually calmed down late afternoon and we had a glimpse at the sun through a still very cloudy sky. Actually the wind dropped down so much that we had to turn the engine on for a few hours. How ironic is that after what we had just been through!

Only one casualty: our Basil plant flew overboard. We fear that Fred, our gecko, was in the plant and therefore may be lost. Poor Fred!

They are still a lot of clouds hanging around today but there are large patches of blue sky in between. The swell has increased a bit again so we do not know if it means that there is another front coming our way. I hope not!

480nm to go to our destination, i.e. Vav'au in Tonga, Northern group of islands.

I didn't mention that Mike had to go up the mast the other day to fix the fog loudhailer speaker that had become loose and was hanging from its electrical wire. Luckily it is on the first crosstree so he didn't have to go all the way up. The sea was fairly calm then but still I was happy to see him back on deck after the repair.

Mike will have another attempt at fishing today...

So we are both well if not a little tired. For our first long passage just the two of us onboard we are not doing too bad really.

Love
Mike and Catherine
