30 October 2009 Charleston South Carolina
The EJ's Voyage

We enjoyed our 3 nights at Beaufort Docks, North
Carolina. A tiny place but with great art shops and friendly people in the
marina. A few photos below. We borrowed a car from the marina and replenished
our fridge. Gave the boat a good wash inside and out which was greatly needed
after our stormy Hatteras passage!
We left Beaufort before 7AM yesterday, sailed
overnight and arrived in Charleston, South Carolina this afternoon at 1PM. Good
passage, 15 - 20 kts Northerly winds gusting 25kts but still a
confused sea with big swells which frankly are uncomfortable. The moon was out
last night and we enjoyed some beautiful skies full of stars amongst the
clouds.
As we are getting back in warmer waters, dolphins
are chasing us again and we played (or rather they played with Falbala) with
them loads.
Mike caught 2 Kingfish on the way (photos attached)
and we now have fish for at least 8 meals!
As soon as we docked in Charleston we rushed to a
dinghy shop to find a replacement to ours which unfortunately was
lost during that horrible night round Hatteras. All that remained were
the towing points (all three ) plus the
wire security line, all parted company with the dinghy. Such was the roughness
of the sea! A motor boat we saw in Beaufort had lost their entire bathing
platform that night! But anyway we found a good deal on an AB dinghy. A better
hull than the Avon but rougher on the finish and no collapsible transom but it
fits on the foredeck so it should do the job.
We will probably stay here until Monday or Tuesday.
The weather forecast doesn't look favourable before then.
It is Ok because we can then have fun on Mike's
60th on Sunday!!! Hurrah!
We got some new photos of Jay so I attached them
too. Can't wait to see him. Such a handsome looking chap!
More later.
Hugs
Catherine and Mike
