Boothbay Harbor was a delightful stop indeed.
Picked up a buoy at the Yacht Club, lovely evening, flat calm water and
wonderful scenery. Took a short walk ashore then chicken curry dinner onboard.
Next morning was a bit wet so we decided to leave for Camden. Luckily the sky
cleared quite quickly and we had a sunny but windless trip to Camden. Flat calm
sea. Actually very pleasant. Mike of course complaining about the use of
diesel...
Maine is almost as beautiful as Scotland, on a
much larger scale. The only thing lacking are the friendly Scottish pubs, good
beer, Glayva, the crazy sense of humor and the madness of the Scots. For
instance, we haven't seen anybody here swimming around their boat naked in the
all year ice cold water! Only in Scotland can you see that...
Maine coast is just stunning. Lots of rocks but
very green at the same time with mainly fir trees and Mountains in the
background. Lots of seals and porpoises. Beautiful houses along the shores.
Peaceful. Beautiful.Interesting too. Can't wait to explore more of
it. Millions of lobster pots though so you need to keep a
constant watch. If any of you wonder where to go sailing next, Maine is
definitely a place to consider.
we are at Wayfarer Boatyard in Camden. The
generator has been fixed this morning to our great relief as the problem was not
as serious as we thought. Our fridge motor has been serviced too and is now
working like a trumpet. The boat will be lifted out of the water tomorrow
morning at 8AM for bottom and hull cleaning and also antifouling. we will have
to find accommodation on land whilst out of the water. Scary thought as we
haven't slept on land for about 3 months now...
Sun is back this afternoon and we are about to take
a stroll round the village.
Hope you are all enjoying life as much as we
are...
Hugs
Catherine and Mike
