The EJ's Voyage

Our 3 days of hibernation due to very strong winds and rain are finally over! Luckily, we were well tucked in our bay (photos attached) with the anchor stuck into mud and we resisted the powerful gusts of wind. It was not pleasant but luckily the boat only swung a lot on its anchor but no rock ‘n roll movement at all.

Yesterday we went by dinghy new to Fare, the main town which took us about 20mn. We hired a little Vespa motorbike, picked up a parcel that had been sent to us from New Zealand via Tahiti with a new cable for our SSB, and went round both islands (Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti). The tour only takes about 3 hours but the islands are gorgeous with spectacular sceneries. There were a few Marae to visit, the ancient religious and gathering sites, some of them having been restored. Some photos attached.

We had a delicious lunch on the waterfront, Filet Mignon for Mike and steamed Mahi Mahi with ginger for me. That’s where we saw Karen’s email announcing her engagement to Jona. Fantastic news! We therefore had to celebrate and we invited our boat neighbours Barry and Judy, New Zealander, for a sundowner cocktail onboard. Mike had prepared a wicked Margarita! And toasted Karen’s and Jona’s best wishes for the future. It is also Karen’s Birthday today!

We moved back to our paradise bay this morning now that the wind has calmed down and the water is flatter. The turquoise colour of the water is still as beautiful and we never tire of looking at it.

All well here and hope for you too.

Love

Mike and Catherine
