Still in Marina Hemingway! Thank God marina fees
are cheap!!! The weather is so bizarre this year, cold fronts after cold fronts.
Another one is due tonight/tomorrow morning and talking to the dock master it
looks like Thursday will be the day we can move on.
We have spent the last day or two doing jobs on
board. One of our electric winch has packed up! We hope that we will get the
spare part needed once we get to the Caymans. Fan belt of the fridge has just
broken so Mike is repairing that as I type. The only problem is we have no
replacement belt. Hopefully we will be able to locate one somewhere here. We
intended to bicycle to the supermarket but that will have to wait now. Fridge is
more important! Work is never ending on a boat...
Tomorrow we will go into Havana again and see more
of that beautiful city.
There are quite a few other boats here, Canadian,
Irish, Australian, Kiwis, German all waiting like us for the right weather
window to sail on. It is quite nice to talk to them and share experiences. We
had a drink with a Canadian couple last night who have been cruising the Cuban
coast for a few months each year for the last 13 years! Great for us as they
gave us a lot of tips and they also gave us a copy of their CD's containing the
North and South Cuban coasts charts. So generous.
There is also one Aussie guy, Ross, who we met
when we were in Charleston. He is here with his brother and sister-in-law, both
US citizens. They told me that they boarded in Key West and sailed straight here
and that it posed no problems at all. The Cubans do not care anyway and
purposely do not stamp their passports so they won't have any problems back
home. They will fly back home from Panama City. Maybe good to know for our
American friends? Ross got his wallet stolen last night by a young girl at the
local bar here in the marina. That's sad.
We are "entertaining" a few
people tonight so that will be fun.
We had a nice romantic Valentine's dinner onboard
last night and opened our last nice bottle of wine.
Quite hot today, not much wind.
Hope you are all well.
Love
Catherine and Mike
