The EJ's Voyage

We had a good day's rest yesterday safely anchored
amongst the mangroves. Beautiful weather but still 20kts + of wind. We went for
a dinghy ride with Peter and Robyn. The mangroves cover a huge space and there
is a wide 4m deep canal separating two lots of them. That is where we are
anchored.
Next to us were two very rusty fishing boats on a
mooring ball so Peter and Mike went to talk to them to see if we could get some
fish. They learned that the boats were actually shark fishing boats and they
were repairing their nets. Even so, they had some lobster tails and fish and the
boys were told to come back later. So they did and came back with huge
lobster tails, a big kingfish and an equally big red snapper. No money was
exchange because they prefer clothing etc. So we gave them T-shirts, a cap,
soaps, beers and a bottle of rum. They were happy and so were we!
I cooked some of the lobster tails for dinner with
roasted vegetables and the four of us had a feast. The lobster tails were so big
that neither Mike nor I could eat it all.
Peter and Robyn caught a fishing net in their
anchor and bow thruster and with Mike's help had a hard time getting rid of it.
Nasty thing. However when the boys returned the net to the fishermen they were
chuffed to get it. It is very hard here in Cuba to find any supplies including
ropes. We are always asked for old ropes.
We will stay another day here waiting for the wind
to turn North which should be tomorrow to have a good passage round the corner
heading for the South coast.
Beautiful weather again today, wind
dropping.
Love
Catherine and Mike
