It has been a week now since we left San Cristobal,
Galapagos. We have sailed a third of the way to our destination.
After the first flush of success fishing (two
small Mahi mahi )Landing fish is proving illusive again , Holger has
been there from dawn to dusk with two lines out. In a moment of lost
concentration ( went down below to eat the last of the ceeviche)something BIG
must have got the lure on the 300 lbs line on the rod and his friend on the
other lighter line. When concentration returned the entire 300lbs line , $10
lure and wire trace had unreeled and parted the securing knot on the reel
never to be seen again. On reeling in the other lighter line again no wire
trace and no lure . an expensive days fishing and nothing to
show ,Seems to be a regular occurrence on Falbala!!!! Fishing has taken a
back seat for a day or two and Holgar is reading the instruction manual
for his complicated but great camera .Seems it could take him several days but
by then he will have it to a "T" ready for the landing and photographing of that
trophy fish!!! Ha Ha!
The wind increased last night and so did the height
of the waves. We have port quartering seas which make us roll now and again. 20
to 25 kts of wind. We have goose wing the yankee and it is now poled
out on port side. Fast day, 7 to 8.5 kts.
We woke up under a very cloudy sky but the cloud
layer is not that thick and we can feel the sun shining through it.
We had steak and salad for dinner lst night the
second night the captain cooked!!. Haven't quite decided what to cook
tonight. Might even bake a cake...
All is well.
Love
Mike and Catherine
