Well- already a week at sea and everyone is
wondering where the time has gone , some book reading and dice games but the
usual routine of watches ,chores and meals keep us all busy
After years of drams and mental planning its
sobering to realise we are 1/3rd of the way across our first ocean in FALBALA-
all very exciting - only four more oceans to cross in the next 5 to 7
years
Crew spirits are high as we have been doing
well (so we think!!)speed ,weather and food wise. The landing of the 1st Fish
the other day was the pinnacle, hopefully to be exceeded over the next couple of
weeks.Scutch is on the job again this morning with two lines out the trusty one
that got the first fish and a heavy duty line to get that one that got
away The weather has been kind with good following winds despite the few
hours of light patches
It was one of those light patches last night ,with
the spinnaker up, I convinced myself that light winds would continue through the
night. I should have kept to my passage plan rule to not carry spinnakers
at night-At 2300 Catherine called me and yes the spinnaker had a big rip in it.
A lesson to be learnt-I will not carry a spinnaker again at night.
Today is Sunday ,we are in anticipatory mood
awaiting our Sunday roast Lamb I 'm told.A check of the fresh food store
is the job for today .All seems to have held up well thanks to some great
planning, selective shopping and sensible storing thanks go to Catherine
and Jamie. We may have to cook some of the veg up and freeze it soon but still a
great job
Dawn has broken as I prepare this blog some cloud
around but think we are in for a sunny day with good breezes- so things couldn't
be better-just the matter of inspecting the spinnaker which I think may the RIP
or at best a big sailmakers job in St Lucia if not Father Christmas will have to
be very generous so we could contemplate a new one (the old one was 27 years old
so not bad)
The GULLIVER Girls had a great victory over FALBALA
yesterday in the Radio Battleship Challenge - we must do better today !! Go for
it Gunnery Office Ollie our master gunner who has three victories to date
against GULLIVER'S one. Results will be posted following the conclusion of the
1st round ( best of 7 games per round)
Despite there being 225 boats in the Rally we have
only seem one or two boats on the horizon in the last few days-- realisation
just how big this pond is!!!
Hoping all family and friends are well and enjoying
reading the blog and following our track
Best Wishes to you All
Mike
PS as we prepare to transmit our email and
blog the following momentous event occurred---- at 1124 we passed the
1st 1000mile mark one week almost to the minute from our start
