The passage from English Harbour to Bequia was a challenging and boisterous 260nm. We had winds of 40 knots from time to time, usually on Jennie’s night watches, and some big breaking waves. That said we also managed some really sparkling sailing too! I have also now learned the hard way, never to leave a hatch partially open on passage………….

Admiralty Bay in Bequia was the venue for the New Year Party, which was organised by Peter Crouch from the yacht Jenny. Several crews were there to sample an excellent meal in the Frangipani Hotel on the beach, followed by the obligatory fireworks display. What was a bit scary was that some folks decided to fire off parachute flares. Mercifully none of these hit any of the  several hundred boats moored in the harbour. An excellent evening.

Bequia is a very colourful place with extremely friendly people, lots of bird life, Frigate birds, Pelicans, Minor birds and lots I do not recognise. The fresh fruit in the local Market is very good and reasonably priced. Which makes a change!

On new years day we went to Princess Margaret’s Beach, for a relaxing time, and swim. As the restaurant there was closed we moved down to Lower Beach and had a fun time with Hugh & Shan from Stargazer. The excitement was all too much for me, so I decided to take and afternoon nap.
