Visit to Porto
Today was a lovely sunny day. Hurray. But as I write this at
1700 hours a thunderstorm is brewing
The bus trip to Porto and thence onto Taylors Port
visitors centre, took around 1 hour. This included a tour through the city. There
is some stunning Portuguese architecture and an amazing number of the old
buildings are derelict. Lots of 1960’s style buildings which do seem to
spoil the overall feel of the city. That said here are some wonderful bridges,
some of which are reminiscent of Ironbridge in Shropshire.
The centre is delightful, and after the tour of Taylors
Portery (and the purchase of essential provisions, pending the arrival of
Sarah), we found our way down to Casa do Infante. This is on the edge of the
river and is where there is a plethora of bars and restaurants. We dined
“Al Fresco” for most of the afternoon, watching the locals
indulging in the tradition of “promenade”, all sporting their
stylish outfits, in the warm sunshine.
Tomorrow we are off south once again. This time the
destination is Fugueira da Foz. A distance of some 70 nm, which is quite a hike
in one day. So do not be surprised if the web diary is not up dated tomorrow
night!
We are now off to the Marina
club house to watch the England
vs Trinidad and Tobago
football match. I doubt there will be much watching of football, but it should
be a
laugh………………………………………………
