Sailing at last after mostly motoring for a couple of days. The wind backed
to the north and put in a bit more effort so we have been able to turn off
the engine.
The big news is that we caught a large (1 metre plus) Mahi Mahi yesterday
and Carol brought it in over about 20 minutes while it put up quite a fight.
IT finally seemed to be tiring as we got it to the back of the boat. Mike
put his harness on and clipped on ready with the gaff to impale it and bring
it aboard. At this point it jumped out of the water between his legs on the
swimming platform, jumped again back into the water, swung it's head from
side to side and got off the hook. Crashingly disappointing but we will try
again today. Spectacular effort on the part of the fish so it got away in a
fair fight and we wished it well. The good news is that we are now getting
fish to take the lure without biting it off so we have some chance at least
of hauling one in. It would be good to catch a Tuna or Wahoo because they
don't put up quite so much of a fight.
We are still not sure if we will stop at Palmerston or go straight on to
Nuie. We will see what the wind is doing.
All well.
