Huge luck and we managed to get two tickets for The Orbit on a day when we both had access to the Olympic Park.  This Amish Kapoor structure is really best described by Boris as ‘That curly wurly thingummy jobby’.  Not something of great beauty but certainly distinctive and really the point is the views of London and the Olympic Park that you get from the top starting with the inside of the athletics stadium which was still being worked on after the Opening Ceremony.  You can see the Olympic flame still in the middle before it was moved to one end when the track was laid………

Great views of London either the right way up through the windows ……..

Or the wrong way up reflected in the huge curved mirrors that Amish Kapoor is known for.  Google him – some of this sculpture is fascinating.

If you get the distances right then your reflection is upside down while someone else is the right way up but London is still upside down.  Hours of fun………

Once you have finished playing and gazing you walk down a spiral staircase round the outside of the structure which we were lucky enough to do at sunset…….

The curly wurlyness is most apparent from the bottom looking back up………..
