Ormos Manganari, island of Ios about 20 miles from Santorini.

Just had our third night here and the wind still blows even though the forecast was for it to ease from 1am this morning.  Still gale force or severe gale force most of the time.  There are occasional lulls for a couple of minutes during which you can hear the next blow whistling over the hills towards us.  Anchor is holding well and although we are blowing from side to side a bit it isn’t too rolly or uncomfortable and we have got used to the noise now.

It wouldn’t present much of a problem except that Viv and Tim arrived on Santorini yesterday and would quite like to start their sailing holiday.  They have an adventurous spirit however so have happily found a hotel for the night and booked the local ferry for midday today. Hopefully we will be able to get round to the harbour to pick them up but not at this rate.  Not only would we rather not sail in this but the harbour is likely to be full with the fishing boats and other yachts also sheltering.

Plan B will be that they get a taxi to this bay and find someone with a boat to bring them across to us or they wait in a taverna or one of the small hotels until we are happy to go in the dingy to pick them up.  It will be annoying if it goes on for too much longer and eats into their sailing time.

We have got lots of food on board thanks to our trip to Lidle with Andrew and Julia so we won’t starve although  Mike ate the last marzipan chocolate bar that Mum had sent out for him last night so morale may take a bit of a plunge today.
