Royal Visit 1 - Our guests arrive - Tashi Derek's guests tha t is, not the Royal Couple. 6 March 2012

No one mentioned moving us so we though it safe to invite a few friends over. Lesley and Philip, David and Susan walked down from the house they were staying in. Alan and Jean from New Zealand who we had first met in Lanzarote and then crossed the Atlantic with, American friends Brad and Anne, fellow Ocean Cruising Club members who had found us when we were all anchored in Falmouth Harbour and their friends who had been hailed from another anchorage at the last minute and made it just in time to join the party. We had suggested folk arrive before eight because, although the dockyard guards had told us they were letting the public in we still couldn’t quite believe the absence of security and though they may shut the gates when the time came. Early start so we bought croissants and pan-au-chocolat at the dockyard bakery for breakfast and Alan and Jean bought a bottle of fizz to keep up morale during the wait. Ten people is a bit of a squeeze for Tashi Delek so we were spread over the boat. Here, left to right, are Susan, Lesley, Jean, Anne, Philip and David. Alan was Magellan Net controller that morning so used our long range radio look after that at 0900. (Message for Josh – you can see your lovely drawing of Tashi Delek is still up in its’ frame and everyone says how great it is) Plenty to watch as Leander appeared and manoeuvred into place dropping two anchors and backing gently up to the jetty. Note the Coastguard boat in the foreground. The only bit of heavy security and the only weapons we saw all day. It wasn’t long before they were chasing a catamaran away that was trying to get alongside for a closer look.
Made it…..
