Fornells, Menorca
The family waved us off from St Laurent du Var
marina and we felt very much ‘on our way’. Will and Annie left for their
new life in Singapore the next day and we have no idea when we will next be able
to visit France so we did have a bit of a lump in our throats.
We knew that strong winds were due the following
day so we set off promptly hoping to get far enough south to avoid the worst of
it. The weather and winds were perfect as we left....
... this did not last. Second day was blowing
hard with a big sea, again, and third day was worse. Horrible. There
was some light relief though as we saw dolphins playing in the waves racing
through them to leap out of the back thereby getting more time in the air.
Surfing in reverse.
Our anchorage had a very narrow entrance but
fortunately the wind and waves were with us so we got straight in and enjoyed
the peace and relative calm of Fornells. It is a lovely spot on a lovely
island that we were visiting for the first time. Fornells is famous for
it’s lobster; apparently the king of Spain buys his there. This last gem
imparted by our dentist who Carol has spent more time with than one would choose
over the last couple of weeks. (All fixed now and fantastic crown in
place. Hooray)
We hired a car to take Carol to the airport and
took the opportunity to explore the island first. It is lovely and
somewhere we would like to spend more time but we have a long way to go yet so
no time to linger. Mike enjoyed a couple of weeks there while Carol was in
UK so lots of maintenance work, cleaning and servicing has been done and we are
in good shape for our next visitors. Carol returns on Thursday night and
then up early and straight on to Majorca next morning.
