Update - Day 4. Mon 12 Dec
17:02.831N 033:16.141W 510 miles run, 1630 miles to go. A guest spot blog from Moyra........ Seafaring and Barrat are keeping us safe and are enjoying their first Atlantic crossing. Seafaring looks particularly fetching in his new naval attire. The days and nights are progressing well and the time is flying by. Michael is determined to catch the ‘fish of opportunity’,,, and nearly did so yesterday when he nearly hauled in a whoppa....it was such a whoppa that it bit through the wire and escaped! He is going to try again later. Carol continues to amaze us all by producing the most delicious meals. In a bid to give Carol a rest I got together some ingredients and made a dish for this evening... or maybe we’ll eat it tomorrow. I have named it Atlantic Pork. Our knitting bee which includes Carol and myself has taken a bit of a back seat. We have been knitting a chocolate Labrador. All the parts have been made, the challenge now is to sew them altogether. As I write this Kit and Mike are doing something frightfully nautical with the genoa and staysail. In and out and up and down go the sails, in order to capture that knot or two of extra speed. We have managed to notch up 148 nm in the past 24 hours, so the aim is to better it. We are all thoroughly enjoying this new adventure. One poor yacht, we heard yesterday is having a terrible time. We heard over the net that Egret has lost her rudder!!! She is doing what ought to be done, but never the less, it must have been a pretty hair raising experience. The other yachts have been amazing. One is making a 300 mile detour to provide some extra jerrycans of fuel and the one closest sailed for 18 hours to stay alongside and give moral support. The radio network is really working. |
