Having said goodbye to Marija and Darren, Sarah, Mike and Carol took off to explore starting with the Rock by cable car.  Everywhere there are notices explaining about the Apes feeding regime and telling you not to carry food with you, nor even a polythene bag because the apes associate them with food.  We turned a corner and came across a very cross looking lady who had just been mugged for the food she was carrying in a plastic bag. Dohhh!  What a hoot. 

OK guys, here she comes, keep your eyes on the bag and we’ll grab as she passes.

Ha!  Got it. Oh very nice, a Panini. 

I think it’s cheese, quick nibble just to check.  Oh yes, absolutely delicious.

Note the ape on the right and the head of the baby at the top.  Both looking longingly waiting for their turn.

Mostly they were just entertaining and fun to watch.

Not always easy to find enough shade though.  This picture also shows all the ships drifting outside the main bay waiting for their orders as well as the ape squeezed into the little bit of shade.

The views from the rock were tremendous.

We walked down from the rock on a pretty much deserted road.  Most folk take the cable car or a taxi but we enjoyed the views and using our legs again.  We went into one of the tunnels that had been dug in the 1800’s in order to place cannons to defend the Rock from the Spanish.  We were a tad surprised when the mobile rang given that we were pretty much underground but a signal must have sneaked in via one of the ‘windows’.  Slightly surreal experience to be talking to our letting agents from inside a rock.
