Star Luster, our lock buddy going through Miraflores locks was pretty immaculate going in but coming out was a bit worse for wear.
Unfortunately we don’t have a photograph of this part of her before the locks but we know from some video we took that the paintwork was intact. Somewhere in Miraflores she must have had a close encounter with the lock sides which are pretty savage…….
Savage enough to do this…. |
Although the ships have at least four train engines, one at each corner, attached by steel cables that are pulled in and let go to keep the ship central in the lock we watched the one in front of us on the way up get swung sideways very hard by the current. Fortunately the cable was rapidly adjusted and she was caught before hitting the wall. |
