Quick Update
Saturday 25th September Anchored close to Yat Marine, Marmaris We have been here for a couple of days so that we could
catch the ferry to Rhodes yesterday and officially leave Turkey so that we
could officially come back in to Turkey and renew our 90 day visa. Quite
a performance and expense but not as much of a performance or expense as
forgetting to do it and then getting stopped at the airport on our way home
having over stayed our allowed time. People have tried this thinking they
can talk their way out of it only to find that they couldn’t and needed
to pay a hefty fine in order to be allowed to leave. Rhodes was fabulous and an easy place to spend our time
waiting for the return ferry that evening. The castle and streets inside are
delightful and generally very well cared for. We were amused to see that
the prime locations are occupied by the various Greek ministries for archaeology,
culture and even – this made us laugh – the Ministry for Aegean Sea
Law and Maritime Law. From our experiences over the summer we hadn’t
realised there were any laws whatsoever for the Aegean Sea in particular or
Maritime in general. There was no sign of any rules, even international
ones being followed by anything or anyone! We were reminded again, not
that we had forgotten, of the difference between Greece and Turkey. In
Rhodes the ferry terminal was scruffy and utter chaos, in Turkey it was
immaculate and efficient. Guess which we prefer. Today we move about 20 miles round the corner to Ekincek, a
lovely bay, where we will spend a couple of days. After that our plans
are flexible and will depend on various contractors in marmaris and their
availability to work on the boat over the next few weeks before we head home. |
