One of the highlights of the Exuma Islands is the National Park area where the headquarters is Warderick Wells. There is a narrow channel just about deep enough for yachts where you tie up to a buoy. This means that you need much less swing room so won’t go aground if the wind changes but more importantly it preserves the sea bed. We knew it would be a tight squeeze but this was very tight indeed. A walk ashore the next day gave us a great view of Tashi Delek (second right) and the narrow channel between sandbanks.
We found some baby Rays partly hidden by sand in a very shallow inlet. Tiny spaceships. This one was about 25 cms across.
This is the view from the jetty at Park Headquarters…….
And the view looking down from the jetty……. |
There was an area described as the ‘Coral Garden’ which was good for snorkelling so we gave that a go. There is quite a current so you have to go at slack water, either high or low tide. There was still quite a current so we trailed a rope to hang on to some of the time. |
Zoe trying out our new mask, snorkel and flippers……
Another snorkeler had spotted a Grouper so we swam over to take a look. This is about 2 metres long and he just sat there barely moving. |
Finally the weather was good enough to use the new gas BBQ on the swimming platform. We have bought this to cook all the delicious fish that we would be catching but, in the continued absence of any success on that front we made do with burgers.
