Quick Update
Saturday 18th September We arrived in Bodrum yesterday and anchored. We had
been warned it was noisy and it certainly was. Massive, thumping music
until 3am it was pretty ghastly even with ear plugs in we could feel the boat
shake. We had decided to put ourselves through this so that we
could visit the Maritime Museum that is housed in the castle where they have
the relics found from a number of wrecks dating back to the sixth century
BC. The castle was built by the Knights of St John with stone they took
from the tomb of King Mausolos of Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders
of the ancient world. The castle is tremendous, a proper castle with
turrets and crenellations and all the things you want a castle to have.
It is in really good condition and is clearly well looked after. The
museum was every bit as fantastic as we had been told and we were particularly
pleased to see the artefacts from the wreck from Yassiada that David Owen had
worked on the recovery of during the 1960’s. (David as in David and Susan
from the States who visited to sail with us earlier this year). We are no sitting on deck using the wifi connection from one
of the cafe’s on shore while we try to decide whether we want to make the
effort to move to another anchorage tonight or stay put and get the ear-plugs
out again. |
