The Cooker has landed 07 Aug 11

The cooker that was installed when we took over Tashi Delek was rusty, guzzled gas while burning with lopsided flames, grilled in two thin stripes and cooked biscuits by burning the bottom while the tops were still raw. Generally past it’s useful life. After several years (yes really) of on/off looking and examining every cooker at the Boatshow we, slightly by chance, found a new company set up by a retired professional chef and a product designer with General Electric. It looked great, felt great and seemed to address all the niggles we had with other brands. We had arranged delivery to Turkey but it had arrived literally in pieces having clearly been dropped on one corner. With advice from Julian and Ralph at GN Espace, Mike screwed it back together and we got it working. It was way better than our old one but looked misshapen and we were not sure the oven was getting as hot as it should. Julian and Ralph felt that it had probably not been well enough packed for the rigours of the journey it had to make and agreed to replace it without question. Although they had offered to arrange delivery to anywhere we were really pleased when Viv and Tim agreed to transport it by motorhome. Partly because we had more confidence in it arriving in one piece and partly because we would get it much more quickly. So here it is, ta da! First dish papaver padron, something Mike and I had enjoyed in Tenerife with Margaret. Bigger than chilli’s, smaller than normal peppers they are stir fried and covered in seasalt. Then you play Russian Roulette with them, some are not hot at all and others blow the back of your head off. Then baked fish. Out of focus because the boat was rolling but you get the idea.
All is now well and we are enjoying cooking more than ever. It is a fantastic beast and does everything we had hoped as well as we had hoped. Plus, we are positively evangelical about GN Espace for their customer care – a shining example of how a very unhappy customer can be turned round if you handle their complaint well enough. |
