Staniel Cay Trails
Ambler Isle

We took a nice long 4 mile hike around Staniel Cay on Wednesday. It was
gorgeous. We followed a trail that went along the ocean, to a bluff. From
there we had a great view of Amber Isle at anchor. The water is so many
shades of blue and aqua defining the different depths. We came to a very
artistically painted sign "Pirates Cave". It led the way to a open cave and
there was a surprizingly clean plastic bag inside. We continued on and came
to another sign, "Pirate's Jungle", and passed a tree filled area. We saw
an unusual palm type plant there. Suddenly it began to rain. We raced for
the cave and found a nice shelter there. Luckily, there are almost no
insects in
the Bahamas, and no poisonous spiders or snakes. The shower ended and we
continued on. Someone had taken pains to keep the trail clear. Back at the
Staniel Cay Yacht Club ( not really a yacht club,
just a few docks and a restaurant.) we ordered Kalik beers and sat at the
bar. A man sat beside us, Mark from 50' catamaran "Stray Cat" He is a
charter boat owner/operator.and had 3 Austrian guests aboard. He regaled us
with tall tales.
