Well, another day, another mahi. Seems we are addicted to catching them.
This time we were fishing for fresh fish for our pal Little Farmer's Cay
Yacht Club owner Roosevelt Nixon (his mom loved the American presidents).
It is like most yacht clubs here in the Bahamas, a rickety dock for a few
boats, a dinghy landing and a restaurant - bar. But Roosevelt Nixon makes
the place very special. He is funny and educated and loves chatting with
his guests. When we brought our mahi to him, he chortled with glee and
agreed to serve us two lobster dinners in exchange. Good deal for him,
he'll get maybe 8 meals of fish to sell. Good deal for us, we enjoy
lobster. Several boaters soon filled the dining room sharing a common table
and conversation. Most are on sailboats. Roosevelt turned a tidy profit
that night. We'd hoped to catch a second mahi for Terry Bains, owner of
Ocean Cabins, the second restaurant on Little Farmer's Cay. We also used
the book exchange to refill our reading library. Valt and I have both
enjoyed reading for an hour or so before bed. For the first time since
we've been coming to the Bahamas, they have digital TV. Our little digital
TV converter box picks up 6 U.S. stations, and one is for Caribbean
weather. They have been hurled into the 21st century!
