The first 24 hours of any long passage are always stressful. This one
has started very gently and we have been sailing in less than 12 knots of wind
on a calm sea......so quite that we stayed under full sail including the mizzen
staysail all night.
There are a couple ships’ AIS signals dotted around our chart plotter
screen but none coming close enough to give us concerns.
We were followed in the night by a couple of Cory’s Shearwaters nattering
away.......such an eerie sound in the middle of an ocean.
