We anchored in the Washington Channel yesterday evening after a three day
slog from Hampton Virginia mainly under motor in oppressive and buggy
heat. The Potomac River was wide and featureless and with a strong ebb
tide until you get near to George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon in the upper
reaches. The US military is ever present as you pass the many gunnery
ranges and we saw the President's helicopter as it flew in and out of the
Marines’ Quantico base.
After a very polite discussion with the Washington Marine Police we have
been told we can stay at anchor for seven days and it is free! >From here
we can see the Washington Memorial on the National Mall so it’s 7 days of pure
happy sight seeing ahead. |
